
Police resort to lathicharge in Cuttack; CM appeals for peace
Cuttack (05/10/2025): Tension erupted in Cuttack again on Sunday after a scuffle broke out between the police and protestors at Darghabazar area. According to information, the members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and several other organisations took out a demonstration ahead of the bandh to be observed on Monday.The police stopped the demonstration held without permission.The cops resorted to lathicharge and used water canons to disperse the agitators who scuffled with them and pelted stones. During the protest, Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo and Darghabazar IIC sustained injuries. The incident was fallout of a dispute following a group clash that had broken out during Dussehra immersion procession.Six persons including the DCP were injured in the incident on the day of immersion.Six people were arrested in connection with the clash. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi appealed for peace in Cuttack after the disturbances.The Chief Minister urged the residents to maintain peace, discipline and harmony in the millennium city.Describing Cuttack as a 1,000-year-old city known for its unity and brotherhood, he said that it's long-standing heritage of communal harmony must be preserved.CM Majhi warned that strict action will be taken against the wrongdoers.
